HP / Compaq DC7700 (2006) Windows 7 or 10 Upgrade Intel. That conflicts in some way with the Intel video driver (an incompatibility). Sep 6, 2007 - Processor Type: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 / 1.86 GHz. Multi-Core Technology: Dual-Core 64-bit Computing: Yes Installed Qty: 1. Max Supported.
Glad to see this post. We have a couple of HP 8200 SFF (around 70).that keep BSOD'ing since last monday. They BSOD at the logon screen. They worked flawlessly for some months. The only 2 variables i can think about is a new antivirus pattern file and the winter time clock change. It seems that the INTEL HD video driver & KB2393802 also mess things up (looking on the internet).
Building a new image on that machine from the ground up now to see whats going on. Bio.You've got to watch those intel drivers.
Some of the ones that come through Windows Update have a nasty habit of corrupting the video system so bad you need to reinstall windows to repair it. According to this KB2393802, it does not affect: Windows 7 for 32-bit Systems Service Pack 1 Windows 7 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 for Itanium-based Systems Service Pack 1 I have double checked this and it's definitely not listed in Programs and Features. So unless you're running Windows 7 Gold, you shouldn't be affected by this problem. If you are running Windows 7 SP1, it's probably something else such as a memory problem or application conflict.
This is purely based on experience, but it's what I would say about this issue. If I understand you correctly, for this program, performance is far better on 32 bit versions of XP, Vista, and Windows 7. That in mind, I would say this. My experience is that the older architectures of the 64 bit versions of Windows, do seem to at times take a while to develop synergy with some programs (By the way, is there a 64 bit version of the program? If there is, are you using the 64 bit version)). Prefetch is the calibrator in Windows that makes run time adjustments, and I would say that it is probably going to pay less attention in the older versions of Windows to awkward performance from a particular program than it does in the newer versions, 8.1 and 10. This is exacerbated by the fact that the systems equipped with the older OS are many times older and less powerful hardware.
You are correct that the program could be part of the problem and perhaps not very well optimized for a 64 bit OS architecture. Based on 20 years of PC use, the best answer, if you must use one of the older versions of Windows, is to attempt to use the program for awhile on the 64 bit OS, whichever you choose. I would think that W7 would respond best and much better than the others over time. If you can test the program for a few weeks, maybe you will see performance improve as prefetch 'learns' to respect more your use of and reliance on the program.
Over time Windows can smooth out the rough spots in a program's performance that occur during run time. This is just my experience and not something reported by a lab. I do believe it is true, though.
