Welcome to the Psychiatry Residency Program The UCI Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior faculty has a long and distinguished history of training top-notch psychiatrists in a balanced, evidence based and patient-centered manner. Our Program is centered at the UCI Medical Center (UCIMC) campus and includes three inpatient units, a partial hospitalization program, an expanding outpatient clinic and a new sleep center, among other sites. These clinical sites are highly regarded among our residents, fellows and medical students.
The USC Psychiatry Residency Training Program began in 1943 and has always had exceptional strength in public sector and community psychiatry. The psychiatric pharmacy specialty residency is a post-graduate second year (PGY2) residency program offered by the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy in cooperation with the Keck School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences.
Our training program, including weekly didactics, emphasizes the importance of using a 'biopsychosocial' and individualized approach to patient care. Psychopharmacologic, psychotherapeutic and integrated psychiatric care (e.g. Collaborative care or telepsychiatry) is presented in a way which underscores the importance of becoming expert in all of these areas upon graduation from the program. Below are a few unique attributes about our program:.
Strong focus on building anacademically rigorous foundation in psychiatry; while enjoying a balanced lifestyle close to destination beaches, snow-capped mountains and miles of hiking trails surrounding south Orange County. UCI is ranked ninth among the nation's best public universities, per U.S. News & World Report.
UCIMC has been ranked among the top hospitals in the nation for the last 16 years, per U.S. News & World Report. Three full-time faculty members are dually-trained in psychiatry and either family medicine or internal medicine, all with national expertise in integrated psychiatric care and education. Strong educational partnerships with the Long Beach VA Medical Center; Orange County Mental Health Clinics; and other mental health facilities within the Orange County community. Long tradition of UCI resident and faculty involvement in statewide and national leadership within organized medical associations (e.g. California Psychiatric Society, American Psychiatric Association). Many opportunities to publish and present at national conferences with UCI faculty.
Over 10% of the 2017 UCI School of Medicine graduating class chose psychiatry as their specialty of choice – well above the national average. Over the past several years, UCI graduates have maintained a 99% psychiatry board pass rate Our training staff and faculty believe the journey is just as important as the destination and our goal is to provide both a positive and rewarding experience for UCI trainees.
